Philina: Encouragement for Healers
Philina
Henton was an RA for Witmer dormitory at Messiah College.
As with most RA’s, a good portion of her time is spent
ministering to the needs of other people – listening to
their problems, praying with them, giving advice, cheering
up folks who have had a hard day and bringing together the
girls on her floor for times of fellowship and various
activities. She’s also spent some time ministering to people
overseas on various short term mission trips.
Philina heard about JESUSpolitik and
the Love Maputo Project at a college student chapel. She
heard about the needs of the street children there, about
their situation and all that the workers provide them with
in hopes of saving their bodies and their souls.
She decided she wanted to get involved to minister to the
hearts of workers in Maputo, Mozambique. Often, it’s the
healers that need healing. It can be burdensome ministering
to others all the time and we have to remind ourselves to
cast those burdens on the Lord and encourage ourselves in
Him.
Galatians
6:9-10 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in
due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. There for
as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to
those who are of the household of the faith.”
Philina was encouraged that she could
use the things she was already doing to get involved. Rather
than start up some new effort, she could use her position as
an RA to edify workers in Maputo, Mozambique as well as the
girls on her floor.
She planned a card making party. She got colored paper,
markers, scissors and glue and snacks. She planned in
advance and invited the girls from her floor to come. She
shared with them how the Love Maputo Project spoke to her
heart and the girls began working on the cards.
"I'm just glad that we were able to do something
as simple as making cards to bring a smile to someone so far
away. Thank you so much for this opportunity." - Philina
Each card we received from them was unique, beautiful, full
of creativity, kindness and words of hope. We sent these
cards over to the workers and their hearts were touched.
Activism Stories are stories of people that are doing something for God and to help His people. It's the stories of real people that don't just talk about living for God, they actually do it. You can too.
It's simple - take the gifts, interests, talents and hobbies that you already have and begin to use them to help the people being reached by JESUSpolitik projects. You can get ideas off our Do Something page or come up with your own. Then, let us know and we'll help you along the way!
