Bands Wanted. Justice Wanted.
Put flyers up all over your campus and in your community to seek out bands for the event. It can be a great way for local bands to attract new fans and use their music to do something worthwhile. Myspace music sites are also a simple way to contact local talent. A lot of bands are willing to do benefit concerts if they are allowed to also have a merchandise table (posters, shirts, hats, CDs, etc…) set up. Remember, bands need money too!
In-between band acts, have the MC remind the audience about the human rights abuse issue that you all are raising money to try and put an end to. Show a short PowerPoint slide or documentary clip telling about the issue in between acts as well. Also, be sure to have a table with plenty of information and pamphlets. Do a drawing for an audience member to win merchandise prize(s) from the bands. Donate all ticket sales to the cause. And it never hurts to put out a donation jar as well! Let us know how this idea worked for you!
