Day of Prayer, Solace & Reflection

Never underestimate the power of prayer. Sometimes people get so worn out and beat up with life that they are too tired to pray for themselves anymore. They need you to pray for them. Part of being a member of the Body of Christ is that you work together; you pull for each other, lift up each other and pray for each other. Life down here on earth is hard and we all need all the prayer we can get.

JESUSpolitik - Young Priest from Matheran, IndiaThat being said, one of the most important things you can do is to form a prayer group that prays for the needs of people all around the world, on your campus and for each other. Be intentional about it, otherwise you’ll never do it.

You may want to kick start your prayer group, or bring people’s attention to the need to pray for each other and about whatever human rights issue your group is working on right now, by hosting a Day of Prayer.

Scope out your campus first and pick out the most peaceful places for silent prayer. Arrange to have it for the day, so people can come there to reflect and pray throughout the day. If indoors, you may want to have soothing music playing quietly in the background , dim lighting, and pictures representing the people for whom you are praying. You also may want to provide pens and  paper for people to write their reflections on.

Advertise for this event so students know to take advantage of the opportunity for some solace.

You may want to also have a big meeting that night where everyone comes together to pray in unison. Begin by telling what you are praying about and whom for, move into a time of worship, break into small groups and end in one large group- holding hands and praying together.

You may also want to consider selling bracelets, necklaces or pins at the Day of Prayer to serve as a reminder for them to continue praying for their brothers and sisters around the world, especially the ones directly affected by the issue you are praying against (ex- AIDS, bonded labor, enslavement, etc…). You can make the bracelets, necklaces, pins, or whatever yourselves and then donate the money raised to support that particular human rights issue.

You will want to invite people to share testimonies the next day or in your next meeting about how the Day of Prayer helped them. Feedback is important. You need to remind people of what they've accomplished!
