People who love interacting with other people really get a chance to help us get everybody working together and reaching more. There are so many needed things you could do. Read about how to do a Rummage Sale to raise funds or, if you're more into demonstrations, read about how to plan a Paper Doll Demonstration or Homelessness Demonstration.
Some more ideas
that come to mind are – planning themed dinner
parties, these could be informal or formal, large
or small. It’s relatively easy to do if you do it potluck
style and most people will come out where food is involved.
At the dinner party, you could talk about the Love Maputo
Project, show the Love Maputo mini documentary
( if you don’t have one already,
we could get one to you) and then have an open forum to
talk about it afterwards. We encourage you to have everyone
go around and talk about what talents, gifts, interests that
they have that they’d like to use for God one day and to
help His people.
Then get us their info and we’ll begin to work with those
people one on one to help them start living their calling
right now, reaching people around the world using the
talents that they already have. (maybe have them write their
contact info on index cards w their talent – you can email
these to us after). From this standpoint, we can help them
to plan events at your college using their talents and YOU
can use your organization/ administration / people loving
talents to help get everyone collaborating on these events.
Tyedye tee parties are
also a fun hands-on way to generate interest. We could get
you white love Maputo tees for just $6 each – so you’ll need
to order ahead of time. Then you could have everyone learn
how to tyedye their tees themselves to
make them especially unique! You’d need to purchase dye and
have table coverings, rubber gloves, rubber bands, clothes
that can get messed up or aprons and a big space available.
If you haven’t tye dyed before, just google it. Be sure to
take lots of pictures and a video would be fun too. We can
use this on the site to inspire more people to get involved.
The profit from the tees bought would go to the Love Maputo
Project of course. Wearing the shirts serves as a good
reminder to pray for the kids. It also makes a statement if
you all wear them on the same day and some students ask
professors if they can speak for 5 minutes at the beginning
of class to talk about the Love Maputo Project. It’s a good
way to stir involvement.
There are endless ways to get people together – once you know what everyone's talents and interests are. Make sure your read our how-to on "Finding People's Talents". Then get people with similar talents working together. They can look up ideas for how they can use their talents on the Do Something page. There are all sorts of ideas- benefit concerts, bake sales, hike-a-thons, benefit dinners, creative videos, poetry readings, art shows, rummage sales, paper doll chain demonstration ... so many things. Make sure you take the time to read over them so you have an idea of what ideas would be most pertinent to your group.
You could also
have a JESUSpolitik speaker
come to your school to speak to a specific
group on campus or in chapel, you can help us get people
charged up, encouraged and using their talents for God and
His people. You can be the voice on your campus getting the
word out about the Love Maputo Project.
